J-House Cross-Town Basketball League Forming Soon
The registration deadline is January 10
Joshua House in Tyrone will host their annual Cross-Town Basketball League for middle and high school students at their Tyrone Armory Building this winter.
Players do not need to be students of the Tyrone or Bellwood school districts in order to participate. According to their Facebook page, players from State College, Huntingdon, Bellefonte, Moshannon Valley, Glendale, and Altoona have participated in the past.
The only other requirement is that league participants cannot currently play varsity basketball. Junior high or junior varsity team members are welcome to play in the Cross-Town league.
An open gym will be held on January 3rd and 10th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm for any players planning to participate.
All players must be registered by 5:00 pm on January 10th in order to be included in the league draft.
The cost of the league is $20 per player.
Games will be on Saturday evenings beginning on January 20. The schedule will be determined based on the number of teams participating.
Practice will be held on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30.
According to the Joshua House website, the name ‘Cross-town’ has two meanings. “We decided on this name because when we first started, we had teams in Tyrone and Bellwood. Since both towns are so close, it was fitting to label it ‘Cross-town’…like ‘across‘ town. Also, as you probably guessed, ‘Cross’ has a spiritual component. For us, sport is a platform to develop young people into the men and women God created them to be.”
