J-House Cross-Town Basketball League Forming Soon
Students in grades 7-12 are eligible
The Joshua House will host a Cross-Town Basketball league at Joshua House Tyrone Armory Building this winter.
The league will have two divisions, one for middle school (7th-9th grade) and one for high school (10th-12th grade).
Players do not need to be students of the Tyrone or Bellwood school districts in order to participate. According to their Facebook page, they have had players from State College, Huntingdon, Bellefonte, Moshannon Valley, Glendale, and Altoona.
The only other requirement is that league participants cannot currently play varsity basketball. Junior high or junior varsity team members are welcome to play in the Cross-town league.
An open gym will be held on December 14th and 21st from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm for any players planning to participate.
All players must be registered by 5:00 pm on December 21st in order to be included in the league draft.
The cost of the league is $25.
The first game will be held Friday, January 13th. All other games will be held on Saturday evenings between 5:00 pm -9:00 pm.
Practices will be once a week. The practice day and time will depend on what team players are on.
According to the Joshua House website, the name ‘Cross-town’ has two meanings.
“We decided on this name because when we first started, we had teams in Tyrone and Bellwood. Since both towns are so close, it was fitting to label it ‘Cross-town’…like ‘across‘ town. Also, as you probably guessed, ‘Cross’ has a spiritual component. For us, sports is a platform to develop young people into the men and women God created them to be.”
