Inside the huddle with Seth Umholtz: Johnstown edition
Each week of the season, Tyrone senior captain Seth Umholtz shares his unique perspective on the Golden Eagle’s 2013 football campaign.
Last week’s game against the Johnstown Trojans was quite a very abnormal night for the Golden Eagle varsity squad. WHVL was there to videotape and air it as the game of the week.
It was also senior night. Senior night was rather emotional for the team. While this was certainly not the first time that emotions ran so high that members of the team were brought to tears, this may have been our most emotional pre game yet.
Our week of practice had been pretty good compared to the last couple weeks, but I still could not shake the feeling that this game just was not going to go as well as the team and I hoped. I’m not sure if the fact that it was senior night had anything to do with it or not, but we did not play up to the ability that we know we can.
Johnstown is a team that is much better than their record shows. They were much improved from last year and have a lot of talented players. They came out and played a very tough game against us and they hung right with us until the very end.
But once again, we overcame adversity that we faced early in the game and pulled out another “W” to finish out the regular season 8-2.
This week we begin the playoffs vs. Bald Eagle Area in a rematch from the regular season.
We are the number 4 seed in the District 6 AA playoffs and Bald Eagle is the 5 seed. The game is Saturday at 7:00pm. It should be a good game so the team hopes to see all our fans come show their support. It’s win or go home now folks!
