Inside the Huddle with Seth Umholtz: Central Mountain edition
Every week of the football season Senior Caption Seth Umholtz shares his unique perspective on the Golden Eagle football team.
Following last week’s tough game against Clearfield, the team knew that it was very important to forget about the past and move on to the next game—Central Mountain. We knew that if we went into the game flat, then we would be in some trouble because Central Mountain is a tough, scrappy team.
The week of practice went pretty well. Going into the game, I was confident in the guys to play a good game. Overall, the guys definitely liked playing on a turf field again just like the previous week against Clearfield.
During warm ups and before the game, we were feeling pretty good and were ready for a good, tough contest from the Wildcats since it was their senior night and they had around seventeen seniors on their roster. With that, we knew that we would have to get off to a good start and try to not let Central Mountain in the game too long.
Going down the field and scoring on the first drive was an awesome start for us. Defensively we struggled some early on, but it eventually game around. The Wildcats definitely were giving us a game, but even though at one point we were down a touchdown, we did not lose our cool. We remained focused and knew what we had to do.
The defense then started to show up and our offense continued to click. Once this happened, we pulled away from Central Mountain and then took it to them pretty well. This allowed us to get some younger guys into the game towards the end.
This week we preparing for a tough Penns Valley team that is going to be coming here looking to take a big victory home. As we get ready for this Friday, we need to continue to keep getting better each week as we approach playoffs.
