Inside the huddle with Seth Umholtz: Bellefonte Edition
Every week of the football season Senior Caption Seth Umholtz shares his unique perspective on the Golden Eagle football team.
Bellefonte marked the halfway point for our regular season. We once again went into the game with the mindset that we were playing ourselves and needed to improve from the previous week.
The week of practice went pretty well and Thursday after practice the team felt as though we had made improvements. The team continued to push forward and worked hard in practice.
We also received our second defensive team sticker for our performance the week before against Philipsburg. The stickers based on a system where certain aspects of defense are worth certain points. For instance, if the defense causes a turnover within the opposing team’s 40 yard line, then that is worth so many points. The defense earned the 50 required points for the second time against Philipsburg and we also earned stickers for the third time this season against Bellefonte.
Going into the game, we knew that Bellefonte was a team that had been struggling through the season, but could also make the game interesting if we did not execute. After all, the previous week against the AAAA Central Mountain team, Bellefonte only trailed 7-6 at halftime. This showed that this team had the possibility of even beating us if we did not execute. At the end of the day, the game was not about the scoreboard to us, we were playing ourselves and needed to execute the way we know how to execute.
The first half of the game was not as smooth as we had hoped. The score was 27-0 at halftime, but we were not pleased with our performance through the first two quarters. However, in the beginning of the second half, we performed better and the starters were then pulled out of the game around the end of the third quarter.
Though we had a rocky start in the game, we turned it around which made us feel a little bit better. However, this Friday we have a tough game against Bald Eagle Area. We aim to continue to improve this week in preparation for the Eagles.
