Tyrone HOSA will host a blood drive with the American Red Cross on Thursday, October 3rd in the high school gymnasium from 8 am to 2:30 pm.
HOSA advisor Christie Taylor urges both students and community members to donate.
“It’s good to help people. People don’t realize the significance donating can give to save someone’s life until they know someone or they themselves need help,” Taylor said.
Members of the Tyrone community can sign up for a time to donate by clicking this link and entering zip code 16686.
HOSA’s goal for the fall blood drive is to collect 25-30 units of blood.
Anyone 16 and older is eligible to donate. Donors who are 16 must have their parents sign a consent form. Anyone who is 17 and older doesn’t need a parental consent form.
Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health and feeling well.
Those who have donated blood within the last 56 days they are not permitted to donate. Those who have received a piercing or tattoo within the last 6 months are also not eligible to donate.
Donors should make sure to get a good 8 hours of sleep and eat a nutritional dinner full of protein the day before giving blood. It is also important for donors to increase their water intake to stay hydrated.
