Annual career fair features over 25 businesses and schools
The Tyrone Area High School Career Fair was held on October 16, 2014.
The annual fair had over 25 businesses and post secondary schools set up around the TAHS gym to speak to the students of all grade levels at the high school.
The vendors included: Allegheny Mountain Firefighters/Nepune VFC, Altoona Beauty School, Citizens Bank, Conner Heating & A/C Inc, Delgrosso’s Amusement Park, DuBois Business College, Epworth Manor, G&R Excavating, GACTC, Gardners Candies Inc, Healthsouth – Tyrone, Mount Aloysius College, Penn State, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Pennsylvania State Police, South Hill School of Business & Technology, The Daily Herald, The Salon Professional Academy, Thrivent Financial, Triangle Tech, Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyrone Hospital, Tyrone Regional Health Network, US Army, US Navy, and YTI Career Institute.
The career fair allowed students to connect with organizations and businesses that can help lead them to post-secondary plans.
There were representatives from schools such as Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and Penn State, as well as local businesses that provide summer job opportunities for students at Tyrone such as DelGrossos Amusement Park.
“When I walked around the gym it appeared students were benefiting from the information provided,” said Tiffany Johannides, Guidance Counselor at Tyrone High School, “they had a chance to focus on their future and learn in a different way than the typical academic day.”
Students also enjoyed the experience of the career fair.
“I liked seeing a wide range of occupations displayed in one area,” said senior Blake Brooks.
For more information about post-secondary plans, students should see Mrs. Johannides in the High School Guidance Office.
