What would you think of a person if they were loving, educated, family-oriented, a foundation in their children’s lives, and were kind to everyone around them?
Now, if you are a Republican, what would you think of that person if they were a Democrat?
If you are a Democrat, what would you think if that person were a Republican?
I’m hoping that your answer wouldn’t change, even after you found out that their political beliefs were different from yours.
But, unfortunately, many people look past the qualities that make up a generally good human being and only focus on politics.
Because of this close-minded view, many lives have been lost. Kids have lost their dads and moms. Spouses have become widows. Parents have outlived their children. When will it end?
Many things in life are inevitable, a natural death being one of them, but death by someone else’s hand… that does not have to be inevitable.
How much more suffering are we going to tolerate? How much more hatred will we let the country drown in? How many more lives have to be lost until we as a nation learn our lesson?
People should not fear getting shot after sharing their political beliefs. Children should not have to be taught how to hide from a shooter. Women should not have to be overattentive when traveling from place to place.
People should not have to live their lives in fear.
On Wednesday, Sept 10, 2025, too many lives were lost at the hands of other American citizens.
If these tragedies are not enough to make a change in America’s future, then what is? We, as united citizens, get to decide the future of our country. Why don’t we change the path we are on before it is too late?
The government can protect us from the threat of foreign countries, but it cannot protect us from ourselves. There is only so much they can control.
For change to take place in America, it is just as much the responsibility of the people as it is the government and political leaders. Citizens cannot demand change and then be too stubborn to accept the actions being taken to better our country.
Yet another thing that needs to change is the blame that falls on the government. Recently, there has been a wide discussion among citizens debating the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms.
Why don’t we take the government and politics out of the equation and put the fault in the hands of those it belongs to? The shooter. No law will keep a violent person from committing crimes. Stop dismissing people from the lives that they took and blaming their mental illness and hatred on the government.
Anyone who thinks they have the right to take someone’s life away and turn a family’s world upside down can deal with the punishment they are given. They do not need people admiring them for their behavior and the pain they caused.
Charlie Kirk was one of the lives lost on September 10th, 2025. Moments after a bullet ended his life, videos of him being shot were circulating on the internet. A man’s death is going viral and being praised by some. Where is your sympathy? Where is your conscience? Since when do we live in a world where murder is circumstantially justified? Two little kids will never get to feel their father’s embrace again. Before anyone starts posting insensitive things on the internet, take a moment to think about that.
As those kids get older, there is a possibility that they will come across a video posted saying that their dad deserved to die. They could even come across the videos of his life, leaving his body. There is no world in which that is okay.
I encourage you to push past politics and look at people for how they treat others. If we keep letting differences in political opinions control our outlook on people, there will never be peace.
It is our right to voice our opinions and have political opinions, but we need to stop taking advantage of it. Many people leave their countries so they can have a voice but recently in America when someone uses theirs, they are silenced. We must be sympathetic. We must be respectful. America must do better.
