Tyrone junior Kyle Scott earned his 100th career win at the Juniata duals on January 18th and 19th. This is a significant career milestone that only 13 other wrestlers have achieved in school history.
He also finished in second place at the team tournament.
Scott has been one of Tyrone’s most dominant wrestlers for the past three years.
His freshman year went well in the win column.
In the postseason, he finished third at districts, second at regionals, and qualified for states in his freshman season. Reaching states as a freshman is a significant accomplishment, as the PIAA State High School wrestling tournament is one of the most competitive tournaments in the country. His record finished at 34-11.
As a sophomore, Scott racked up 41 wins and 9 losses, placing second at districts once again. At regionals he was fifth, and made his second appearance at the state tournament, this time reaching the podium in eighth place.
He was proud of the eighth-place podium finish but had bigger goals for his junior year.
This year has been his best season so far. His record is currently 31-2 on the season and he plans to make it far in the postseason.
“One hundred wins is cool, but I’m not done yet. I am going for the record,” Scott said, referring to the school record for career wins which is 159 wins, currently held by former Tyrone state champion and college All-American AJ Schopp.
Scott has a two-week break before Districts on February 14 and 15 at Altoona Area High School.
He can make a good push in districts, then regionals, and hopefully get to states and compete well. There will be many different good wrestlers along the way that he will have to face, but Scott can keep up with any of them.
From Scott reaching the 100 wins list, he has joined many outstanding wrestlers in Tyrone history, including:
AJ Schopp
Ron Garbinsky
Terry Tate
TJ Albright
Thaddeus Westley
David Miller
Bruce Wallace
Dylan Weston
Robert Waite
