TYRONE- “Grease” is premiering on April 5th and 6th at 7:30pm Tyrone Area High School.
The musical will be showcasing Ryan Cox as Danny, Alyssa Benton as Sandy, Emily Jamison, Alison McGovern, Alexis McKenna, and Hope Wilson as Rizzo, Marty, Frenchy, and Jan respectively, and Max Babe, Jared Muir, Sean McGovern, and Bailey Christine as Kenickie, Sonny, Doody and Roger respectively.
This version of Grease is a bit different than the original. The musical cuts out all of the alcohol, tobacco and sexual references that the original version had. Many of the song lyrics and lines have been changed to be more school appropriate. Also a major plot point, Rizzo’s pregnancy scare, has been taken out completely. The directors think this is a good change because parents won’t be worried about bringing children.
TAHS art teacher, Eric Feather, and his art classes are making the sets for the show.
Kendra Walker, cast member, stated, “[The sets] look really cool I’ve never seen how the sets are made before and it’s really interesting”
“This show is going by extremely fast,” said Walker. This is Walker’s first show but she said she isn’t nervous because the show isn’t that much different than one of her dance recitals. “I’m having fun; the cast is really fun to work with” she stated.
The show has been advertising for a few weeks now, with posters all over the school and the community. Tickets have been on sale in the High School main office for weeks now.
“I liked the movie, so I imagine [the musical] will be just as good,” said Kayla Bilger, a student who will be attending the show “I’m pretty excited, I’ve never seen a TAHS show before”. Bilger says she knows some of the members of the cast and she is excited to see them.
Adam Zook, also a TAHS student, said he’ll be seeing the show, “I want to see it because I like going to see Tyrone shows. I saw ‘Cinderella’ two years ago and I loved it. My favorite show I’ve seen so far was ‘South Pacific’, but I think I might like this one better because I know most of the cast members”. Zook says he wants to see how Cox will portray Danny.
