Golf Team Finishes Second in the Mountain League

The Golden Eagles golf team took second place in a field of eight teams on Tuesday, Septmber 24 at Iron Masters Country Club in Roaring Spring.

With the second place finish, Tyrone’s season record ends at 25-3 in the Mountain League.

“The regular season, for the most part, was a success.  Finishing 25-3 in the Mountain League was great. Beating Phillipsburg, a possible state championship team at Nittany Country Club was unforgettable, and having a chance to win a district title was memorable,” said Tyrone’s first year Head Coach Michael Funicelli.

Junior Jake Taylor and sophomore Colt Brooks lead the Eagles with a 7 over par 79, giving them both a 4th place finish overall.

“I felt really bad going into the day but I started draining long putts and it turned out to be my best score in a match. I was very happy with the way I played, but I know I am capable of more,” said Brooks.

Following Brooks and Taylor, senior Brent McNeel shot an 85 and freshman Cassidy Miksich shot an 88.

This was the Eagle’s last regular season match. The golf team finished second in the Mountain League behind Philipsburg.

Funicelli is happy with how his first year as head coach went.

“Getting to know the students and spending at least 2 days every week with them was the best part.  We have a fun team with many personalities,” said Funicelli.
