An impressive exhibition of basketball led the Golden Eagles to a convincing 71-17 defeat of the Philipsburg Mounties last night on December 9th.

After going up 30-2 in just the first quarter, Tyrone showed no signs of relenting and put the Mounties away easily on Tuesday night at home.

In the final three quarters, Tyrone outscored the Mounties 41-15 in resounding fashion.

Nathaniel “Pooky” Soellner led the team in scoring with 16 points, converting most of his points from the free throw line.

Senior Tristan Lingenfelt was a sharp shooter from the three point line, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 13-16 from the line and made eight shots from the three point line.

In comparison, the Mounties were only 3-6 from the free throw line and made no three point shots.

“Are defense was key in this victory,” said senior guard Shane Geis, who led the team with 12 assists on the night, “we really worked well as a unit on the defensive side of the ball. We forced key turnovers throughout the game that led to an impressive victory.”

The Golden Eagles have two more games this week, traveling to Central to face their rivals from football. Saturday they travel to Tussey Mountain to play the Titans.
