The Tyrone Golden Eagles continued their undefeated streak on Tuesday, March 25th, by defeating the reigning 4A district champion Bellefonte Red Raiders.
Led by strong performances from Ashton Walk, Landon Hamer, and Brayden Parsons, the Eagles improved to 4-0, maintaining their perfect record.
Following a dominant 7-2 win over Mount Union, Tyrone entered the game with momentum on their side.
Senior Landon Hamer expressed the team’s mindset. “You can’t win them all if you don’t win the next one,” Hamer said.
This focus helped the Eagles string together nine hits and secure the win with solid pitching from Dylan Ewing and Carter Price.
The Eagles faced early challenges, giving up a leadoff double and two walks in the first inning. However, Bellefonte managed only one run as Ewing navigated through the jam.
Tyrone’s offense responded right out of the gate, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Strong hitting was a common theme throughout the game for the Eagle’s offense, with nearly every starter contributing a hit, including Walk, who had 2 hits and drove in a run as well.
Key hits were also crucial in securing the victory. Hamer’s two-RBI double in the second inning and Parsons’ two-RBI triple in the third were pivotal.
“With two runners on and two outs, I knew I had to make something happen,” Parsons said. “When I got the outside pitch, I let it travel like we work on at practice and took in down the left field line for the triple.”
Dylan Ewing pitched five complete innings on his second start of the season, allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits with one strikeout.
Sophomore Carter Price secured the save in his first appearance of the season, allowing Bellefonte to only one run on one hit and a walk over two innings.
“Coming into the game, I felt pressure, but I settled in, and it felt great to contribute to the team’s success,” Price said.
The win moves Tyrone to 4-0, while Bellefotne falls to 1-2.
The Eagles’ offense has been impressive, boasting a team batting average of .390. They look to extend their winning streak when they clash with the Clearfield Bison on Thursday.
The Bison are coming off a 6-5 conference victory at home against Bishop Guilfoyle.
