The Tyrone Golden Eagle baseball team took a detour from their nail biting down to the final inning or two, tight victories with a ten run rule 11-1 victory in 5 innings against Williamsburg.

Tyrone’s bats awakened early ending their streak of slow starts with 4 runs in the opening frame. Tyrone got their first runs of the game on a two run blast off the bat of Kevin Lehner scoring Andrew Pearson. Tyrone kept the inning going when Michael Buck singled up the middle scoring Cory Lehman and Michael Stoner.

Freshman David Lang took to the hill for the Golden Eagles for his first career varsity start. Lang showed up in a big way giving up only 1 hit over his three innings on the mound while striking out two.

“It was a lot of fun and it’s been exciting to contribute to our early success,” said freshman David Lang

After Lang’s night ended Nic Light was sent out for his first appearance of the year. Light also allowed only 1 hit but did give up one run, as he struck out three batters over the final 2 innings of the game.

Tyrone followed up their 4 spot in the 1st inning by putting up another 4 in the second. Tyrone kept the pedal to the floor by going up 11-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Dylan Vipond drove in 2 runs in Tyrone’s three run 5th inning.

Williamsburg added one run in the top of the fifth inning, but that was not enough to evade the ten run rule so the game ended after 5.

With the victory Tyrone’s record moves to 8-0 on the season. The Golden Eagles have a major matchup against PO tomorrow. The game comes when the teams are ranked #1 and #2 in class AAA with the winner looking to claim the top spot.
