In week two the Golden Eagles traveled to Trojan Stadium to face 0-1 Greater Johnstown after a heartbreaking week one loss to Clearfield. The week 2 matchup was expected to be an even and hard-fought fight, however, the Golden Eagle offense ran away with this one winning 42-12.
Tyrone set the tone to start the game, forcing Johnstown into a three and out setting up prime field position for a touchdown drive that was capped off by a 24-yard connection between quarterback Ashton Walk and Dante Novak.
This opening drive was only the beginning of a great night for Walk, who threw for 228 yards and three passing touchdowns on the day, finding Novak, senior receiver Klayten Moore on a 5-yard grab, and Junior Eli Woomer on a 50-yard bomb for his three touchdown passes.
The Golden Eagle’s electric passing attack allowed the running back duo of Seth Hoover and Ashton Emigh to combine for 151 yards on the ground on 23 total carries.
Emigh found the endzone twice and Walk ran for another that capped off a balanced offensive night for the Golden Eagles.
With Bishop Guilfoyle transfer Trent Adams unavailable due to injury, senior Tyler Weston stepped up big in the receiving game, especially on third down converting on two-third downs receptions.
Weston ended with three catches on three targets for 28 yards.
Defensively, sophomore Mason Emigh, and seniors Logan Rumberger and Dante Novak, stepped up in the secondary to hold the Trojan passing attack to just 106 yards.
Starting corners Gayge Miller and Eli Woomer also contributed heavily to their defensive effort with Woomer intercepting a deep ball late in the second quarter.
“I like the way that the boys stepped up when their number was called,” said John Stanton.
The Eagles face the Central Dragons at home this Friday 9/6. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
