Golden Eagles Fight Back and Win in Extras
The Tyrone Golden Eagle Baseball team delivered another nail biting comeback victory against Clearfield on Saturday winning 3-2 in 9 innings.
Tyrone was led once again by it’s pitching and defense. Junior Kevin Lehner got the nod to start the game for the Golden Eagles on the mound. Lehner dominated the Bison lineup for 5 innings allowing only 1 run on 6 hits.
Freshman Aiden Coleman came in to relieve Lehner in the sixth inning and continued Lehner’s dominance for the remainder of the game. Coleman only gave up one run on 5 hits. Walking nobody and retiring 1 batter for his second victory in his varsity career.
“I couldn’t do this without my defense behind me, I believe I pitched well but my fellow teammates had my back the whole game,” said Aiden Coleman
Tyrone’s bats were quiet for most of the game, they had chances to score and tie the game numerous times but could not come up with that big hit to crack then game open and take the lead.
In the bottom of the final inning Tyrone came up to bat with their biggest hitters coming up. Kevin Lehner led off the bottom of the inning with a double sending a rocket into the right center gap.
With Lehner representing the tying run on second Cory Lehman came up to bat. Lehman hit a rocket that was heading straight up the middle but Clearfield’s shortstop dove out, caught the ball and tagged second to double up Lehner.
With Brandon Lucas getting injured, he was replaced by Michael Stoner who reached on a hit and was pinch ran for by Blaine Hoover who represented Tyrone’s chance to tie. With a runner on first and two outs Matthew Savino came up to bat looking to try in the tying run.
Savino tagged a ball sending it into the left center gap and sent Hoover off to the races. Hoover came in to score all the way from first keeping Tyrone in the game trying the score at 1.
Clearfield reclaimed the lead in the top of the 8th taking a 2-1 lead. Tyrone came back in the bottom of that inning and tied the game when Rodney Shultz singled scoring Matthew Savino tying the game at 2.
After Coleman blanked Clearfield in the top of the 9th Bryce Hunter leaded off the inning and after Andrew Pearson reached base, they intentionally walked Aiden Coleman to get to Kevin Lehner.
On the first pitch Lehner his a ball a mile in the air but it was deep enough to score the speedy Hunter from third.

With the victory the Golden Eagles move to 6-0 on the season with a 4-0 record in the Mountain League
