Tyrone headed north on Monday to face the reigning 4A state champs, the Bellefonte Red Raiders. The Golden Eagles have had very little success in the recent past against the Raiders. However, they got ahead early and tied the game late before falling 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh.
In the first inning, senior AJ Coleman opened with a double to the fence after working a leadoff 3-2 count. Ashton Walk followed up with a single, paired with Landon Hamer working a walk, the Eagles offense looked primed for a long first inning with bases loaded and nobody out.
However, the next two batters for Tyrone would strike out, bringing Brandon McClure to the dish.
McClure came through, slapping a single into right field, putting the Eagles up 2-0.
But the Red Raiders were ready to get on the board early, with Braedyn Kormanic putting a fastball well beyond the left field wall.
AJ Coleman would pitch a gem, striking out three in 4.1 innings of work. He would walk 2 while only giving up 3 earned runs.
Senior Landon Postreich would relieve in the bottom of the fifth, and would have a commendable outing, but would struggle in the bottom of the 7th.
Tyrone highlighted their game with 12 hits, with Landon Hamer going 3-4, with two doubles.
Freshman Wyatt Kustenbauder would have a solid game as well, going 3-4 with 3 singles on the day. Ashton Walk would also snatch the only stolen base of the day.
The game was consistently back and forth, with Bellefonte going up by two in the fifth. Tyrone would load the bases in the top of the 7th, with a close knit score of 4-6.
The Golden Eagles would choose to pinch-hit junior Dylan Ewing, and he would work a 2-1 count before roping a single into right field, to even the score at 6.
However, in the seventh, Landon Postreich would walk 2, and after a balk, the bases would be loaded. Bellefonte would walk it off, however, with a double into the gap.
