Golden Eagles Fall in the Fourth
Last Friday, the Golden Eagles played the Rams in a down-to-the-wire game. Tyrone came into this match-up with a respectable 6-1 regular season record, while their opponent, Penns Valley, came in with a 5-2 record.
The Golden Eagles flew in the first half, with Ashton Walk completing 9-9 attempts for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Both of the passing touchdowns were caught by junior tight end Andrew Weaver.
The Tyrone run game was also powerful, with big rushes by both Kolten Miller and Brady Ronan. Each running back had a gain of 30+ yards in the first half. Ronan also added a 1-yard touchdown run to cap off a drive in the second quarter.
Penns Valley was able to get on the board in their second drive with a touchdown. However, the Penns Valley team went into halftime trailing 21-7.
After the half, the Rams were able to make adjustments and ended up throwing the ball all over the Tyrone defense. Romig, the quarterback of Penns Valley, completed 11 of 17 passes in the second half for his team. This air raid sparked the Rams to 21 unanswered points, bringing the final score to 28-21 with Penns Valley taking home the win.
Although there weren’t many positives for the Tyrone team, the offensive line held firm in this match, allowing Tyrone’s running backs Brady Ronan and Kolton Miller to eclipse over 65 yards. With the Offensive line being this strong, Tyrone believes they can conquer any opponent.
“The offensive line paved holes through the defense, making my job easy,” said Junior Running Back Brady Ronan.
Along with the offensive line, the defensive line also controlled the game, holding the Penns Valley offense to only 81 yards total in rushing. This is a major positive, as coming into the game, Penns Valley running back, Ty Watson was averaging 113 yards per game.
The Golden Eagles fell apart in the fourth quarter due to a lack of focus, and an overconfident mindset.
Tyrone will host The Hollidaysburg Tigers at Gray’s Memorial Field.
