Golden Eagles > Bald Eagles
Earlier this season the Golden Eagles handled BEA easily in a 63-30 road victory. Bald Eagle must have had the rematch circled on their schedule as they battled hard and led Tyrone for much of the second and third quarters. But a strong fourth quarter allowed the Golden Eagles to eek out a win, 46-44.
Tyrone started the game hot, scoring 18 in the first quarter. The team was making multiple shots from all over the court. Freshman Landon DeHaas sunk two three-pointers in the first and led the team with 12 points on the night.
The score at the end of the first was 18-9 Tyrone, but Bald Eagle closed the gap by going on a 13-4 run in the second.
“They were a solid team and hung with us after the second. Luckily we were able to finish the game with a win,” said sophomore Blaine Hoover.
Sophomore Damon Gripp was the second leading scorer for the Eagles with 11. DeHaas also lead the team in three-pointers with two.
The score was tied at halftime at 22-22, but the Bald Eagles came out of the locker room with momentum to start the third quarter and ended up taking the lead 32-37.
In the fourth quarter, Tyrone knew that they needed to step up their game to close the gap and take the lead.
In the nail-biting fourth quarter, both teams were scoring points back in the fourth. Finally, Tyrone prevailed scoring once and holding onto the ball to keep a final of 46-44.
“Our team stepped up in the final quarter and we were able to put some points on the board and stop them from scoring,” said sophomore Brandon Lucas.
The Eagles face up against Philipsburg this Wednesday and are hoping to beat them a second time.
