The Golden Eagle girls and boys swim team faced an upsetting loss against Huntingdon on January 19 at home with the girls losing 61-98 and me boys losing 74-95. The team had some very close swims all night but could only pull out a few wins.

“All in all, we had some good swims,” said Tyrone head coach Tom Getz, “on the girls side, we had some very good swims in the 100 fly from Emily Beam,  200 IM with Emily Beam and Ali Hosko, the 50 free And the 100 back with Mikayla Harris and Sam Aungst in the 100 breast. However, it still ended up being a disappointing loss after being tied 31-31 at the break. We are struggling with getting a well rounded lineup but if the girls keep working hard, we will get there.”

The girls team of Mikayla Harris, Samantha Aungst, Emily Beam and Allison Hosko took a first place win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:17:29.

Mikayla Harris had a double win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27:54 and also in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13:37.

Emily Beam won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:14:28

“The meet went well for everyone. We continue to improve at each meet little by little,” said Junior Emily Beam.

“On the boys side, we are seeing some improvement from our new swimmers,” said Getz, “which is starting to make us more competitive and our veteran swimmers need to make sure they are putting the time in the poo, to continue to be successful. We also picked up another swimmer from Bishop Guilfoyle, Blake Slobodnik, which is going to make the team much stronger.”

Also the boys team of Ryan Evanko (BG), Blake Slobodnik (BG), Collin Rhoades, and Ben McConnell (BG) won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:49:06 and the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:15:69

The next swim meet at home will be February 2, 2015 at 6 p.m v.s. Altoona
