Golden Eagles Struggles Continue
Tyrone dropped a double header vs. Philipsburg on Tuesday
The Golden Eagles lost another tough Mountain League game on Tuesday when they got swept in a doubleheader at P-O on Tuesday. Tyrone lost 6-5 in game one and 7-3 in game two.
In game one the game was dominated by the pitching of Nic Light and the bat of none other than Kevin Lehner. Nic Light gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning, but then dominated the PO lineup up and down until he hit the 100 pitch count limit after the sixth inning.
On the offensive side for Tyrone Kevin Lehner went 3 for 4 falling a home run shy of the cycle, while scoring three runs himself. Tyrone opened the scoring early when an error by PO allowed Andrew Pearson to score.
Then in the top of the third inning, Tyrone retook the lead when a Kevin Lehner RBI single scored Andrew Pearson, and then a ground ball from Matthew Savino scored Lehner as Tyrone took a 3-2 lead after three innings.
Tyrone added another run in the top of the fifth inning when Kevin Lehner reached on a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Tyrone held a 4-2 lead after six innings.
Tyrone added their final run when Kevin Lehner hit a two-out triple and then later scored on a base hit off the bat of Cory Lehman to give Tyrone a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the final inning.
Matthew Savino came in to relieve Light in the seventh inning and ran into trouble both with errors and hits as PO scored 4 runs to win the game handing the Golden Eagles their ninth loss of the season.
In game two Rodney Shultz ran into trouble early allowing a leadoff home run in both the first and second inning.
Tyrone was unable to push any runs across in the top of the first but then they struck in the top of the first when Micah Woomer hit a ball to the pitcher. The PO pitcher elected to try and throw out Matthew Savino at home but Savino avoided the tag scoring the first run of the game for Tyrone.
PO added 2 more runs in the top of the third inning take a 4-1. Tyrone retaliate in the bottom of the third when a leadoff triple by Andrew Pearson resulted in a run for Tyrone when he scored on a Kevin Lehner base hit.
Although Tyrone scored they could not tie the game as PO still held a 4-2 lead after three innings. PO shut the door on Tyrone when they scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 lead.
Tyrone added another run in the sixth inning when Nic Light successfully executed a suicide squeeze scoring Cory Lehman closing the PO lead to 5.
Rodney Shultz pitched the first four inning surrendering 6 runs on 6 hits. Cory Lehman then came in to relieve Shultz giving up only one more hit and one more run.
In the bottom of the seventh inning Andrew Pearson hit his second triple of the game but the Golden Eagles were not able to get any more offense going as they lost 7-3. With the loss the Golden Eagles fell to 3-10 on the season with a 2-9 record in the Mountain League.
Tyrone travels to Bellefonte on Thursday looking to snap a 3 game losing streak and pick up their fourth win of the season.
