Golden Eagles Sting Hornets
The Tyrone Golden Eagles got back to their winning ways Monday as they defeated out of conference opponent Juniata Valley by a score of 8-3. The game was tight until the sixth inning but Tyrone’s bats came alive when necessary to secure the victory.
Aiden Coleman held down the fort on the mound racking up 7 strikeouts over 5 innings pitched while holding the Hornet offense to 1 run on only four hits.
Tyrone’s offense returned to their high powered aggressive state after being held silent on Thursday. Kevin Lehner, David Lang, Brandon Lucas, and Andrew Pearson all recorded 2 hits for the Eagles. Bryce Hunter, Rodney Shultz and Nic Light also had hits.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Their one run lead held until JV knotted up the contest in the top of the fourth inning. The game stayed tied at 1 until Tyrone added another run in the bottom of the fifth taking a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Eagle offense exploded in the sixth inning as they scored 6 runs giving them a 8-1 lead. The rally started when senior Andrew Pearson hit a two run blast off of the Hornet pitcher for his first varsity home run.
Juniata Valley tried to start a rally in the top of the 7th inning but where only able to score 2 of the 7 runs they needed to extend the game.
With the victory Tyrone moves to 11-1 on the season.
