Golden Eagle Offense Too Much for St. Joe’s
The Tyrone Golden Eagles remained perfect with a dominating 12-2 performance against St. Joes. Tyrone’s offense was led by sophomore Brandon Lucas, and seniors Cory Lehman and Andrew Pearson. Matthew Savino and Bryce Hunter held down the fort on the mound holding St. Joes to almost no offense.
“I think we have started out great. We have made some big plays to help bring home some wins, our fielding has been outstanding and we are having some great at bats which helps lessen the load on our defense and pitching,” said sophomore Brandon Lucas
The trio of Lucas, Lehman and Pearson went a combined 9-10 from the plate and were responsible for driving in 9 of Tyrone’s 12 runs. Rodney Shultz and Kevin Lehner also drove in runs for the Golden Eagles.
On the mound for the Golden Eagles junior Matthew Savino shut down the St. Joe offense allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits over his four innings of work while striking out three. After Savino’s night was over sophomore Bryce Hunter came in and closed out the game securing the victory for Savino.
Tyrone jumped on St. Joes early as they scored three runs right out of the gate and their offense never looked back. St. Joes looked to get a comeback in the works by scoring 2 runs in the third cutting Tyrone’s lead to 3-2.
Tyrone was not about to let their lead slip away as they added to their lead by scoring 2 more in the bottom of the third taking a 4-2 lead.
After Savino put up another 0 in the top of the 4th the Golden Eagle offense exploded for 6 runs making sure their pitcher had plenty of breathing room going into the fifth inning.
After Hunter put up a zero in the top of the fifth senior Andrew Pearson ended the game with his third hit of the game driving in 2 runs putting Tyrone up 12-2 bringing the 10 run rule into effect.
With the victory Tyrone moves to 4-0 on the season with a highly anticipated matchup against Huntingdon looming on the next day.
