This past Tuesday, October 8th, was a big night for the Lady Eagles against the Bald Eagle Lady Eagles.
Not only did the girls know it was going to be a tight game, it was also the Pink Out night for Tyrone.
Pink Out means a lot to all of the girls and they knew that they were playing for more than just themselves. They were playing for the millions of people who are affected by breast cancer every year.
“With my mom being a survivor of this horrible disease, it is a huge thing for me to play my heart out today,” junior defensive specialist Raeleigh Oliver said.
While the girls ended up losing to BEA in three sets, the Lady Eagles raised over $1500 for breast cancer research by running a basket raffle, a bake sale, and 50/50.
The girls wore their pink jerseys to show their support for those affected by this devastating disease.
This night is a big deal for the girls every year, so they knew what they had to do. Bald Eagle started off the first set with a strong service run, but Tyrone was able to fight their way back into the match with a strong offensive game at the net.
Freshman right-side hitter Lola Woomer accounted for 6 blocks this match. She had an impressive performance all night, and was able to keep the outsides of Bald Eagle in check.
The Eagles of Tyrone struggled to put a ball down on Bald Eagle’s scrappy defense and lost the first set 18-25.
Disappointed with the outcome of the first set Tyrone knew they would have to work extra hard to beat down the Bald Eagle defense. They mixed up their shots and played smart which earned them a 4-point lead early on in the set.
“At the start of the second set our team’s energy was high which gave us an early lead,” said junior middle hitter Elise Volders, “I feel like the team gave up a lot of unforced errors towards the end of the set and gave Bald Eagle some easy shots.”
After a serve receive rut the ladies of Bald Eagle were able to get back up and took Tyrone to a tight set.
This competitive play by Tyrone earned senior libero Kylee Nelson 13 digs, and junior setter Bailey Woomer 10 assists. Although they fought hard they lost the set to Bald Eagle 23-25.
The start of the third set stayed close, but as the set progressed Tyrone found it harder and harder to get a ball on the floor.
They struggled and dropped the third set 25-13, bringing their record down to 6-8.
