In the past weeks, the Lady Eagles have been on a tear, first earning a hard-fought win over Bishop-Guilfoyle, then having back to back sweeps later in the week.
Bishop Guilfoyle
The Lady Eagles went on the road to take on Bishop Guilfoyle last week and earned a hard-fought win in five sets.
Tyrone looked like it was cruising to an easy win with a commanding 2-0 lead in the first two sets, but Guilfoyle would not go down easy, taking the next two sets to the Lady Marauders.
In the first set, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a lead and never looked back, taking the first set by a reasonable margin. The team continued its dominance in the second set, only allowing nine total points while scoring twenty-five.
The third and fourth sets were almost replicas of each other with the Lady Marauders taking both sets by a slim margin, sending the match into a decisive fifth set.
But the Lady Eagles returned to life in the last set, winning with a score of 15-11.
The win improved the Lady Eagles record to 4-5 on the season.
Central
The Tyrone Lady Eagles sent the Lady Dragons of Central Martinsburg home in a three-set sweep on Monday, September 30th. This was a very big win for the ladies of Tyrone. The season did not start out how they had imagined, but they’re trying their best to turn it around.
They started this match off confident and it paid off. They had a strong serve and pass game all night with senior libero Kylee Nelson leading the team with 16 digs, and 8 service points. The first set ended strong for the Eagles winning 25-14. The second set only boosted their momentum. They stayed strong on the net and in serve receive, enabling them to run different plays with their offense.
“During the second set we were able to work as a team and we were able to keep a good mental mindset the whole match,” junior outside hitter Abby Anthony said.
Their dominant offense earned junior setter Bailey Woomer 26 assists this match. Central just couldn’t return the ball. The second set was an even bigger upset for the Lady Dragons, and Tyrone ended the game with a score of 25-9.The Eagles had the end in sight and knew they would have to stay focused the third set in order to pull out a three set win. They made sure to stay disciplined at the net and back behind the service line. Their concentration and energy earned them a 25-16 set win and sweep over the Lady Dragons.
Bellefonte
On Tuesday, the lady Eagles Volleyball team yet again takes another 3-0 sweep this week vs the Bellefonte Raiders. With this win the Lady Eagles break 500. Tyrone’s record now stands at 6-6.
First game 25-19 really set the tone for Tyrone. Even with Bellefonte’s Dawg Pound chirping in the Eagles ears they still kept the lead throughout the game. The Eagles after the first game were able to point out the Raiders weakness which would key for the Eagles for the next sets. Junior setter Bailey Woomer did a great job at dumping the ball over the net resulting in getting a few kills.
The second set the Lady Eagles knew that Bellefonte’s defense was a little shaky on top of their serve receive. Tyrone was able to scrape up just a few points alone only on serving. During this set senior libero Kylee Nelson was picking up a lot of digs from Bellefonte’s number one outside. In the end the Golden Eagles spanked them ending 25-15.
“Getting two sweeps is helpful for our record and for our team. It helps us bring up our confidence as a whole.” Freshman opposite Lola Woomer, “I hope we can end off the week with a solid three sweeps and overall it definitely feels good to be a part of these wins as an underclassmen.”
For the third set Bellefonte’s fans were pretty quiet at this point along with Bellefonte’s bench and court. The start of the third set was a little rocky for Tyrone. The Raiders and the Eagles were tied neck and neck. Junior outside Rylan Crowell really popped out this set earning the Eagles a ton of points on offense finishing the set 25-18.
