Tyrone mounted a comeback after falling behind by 10 points at the end of the third quarter against Bald Eagle. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles ended just three points shy of sending the game to overtime.
With just a minute and 17 seconds left Tyrone sophomore Alayna Woomer closed the gap to three with a three, making the score 35-32 with BEA still in the lead.
Tyrone was able to get the ball back after Claire Lehman rebounded a missed BEA layup, and Tyrone Head Coach Mike Whitling was able to call a timeout but with only 7.2 seconds left on the clock.
Whitling drew up a play but the Lady Eagles missed a pass and turned the ball over to BEA with just 0.1 seconds left with no chance to score.
“I was thinking about getting a little bit of motion to get the defense moving while also trying to get a 3-pointer. We executed the play ok as they jumped the play and with some quick thinking we found a wide-open 3-point shooter and just didn’t connect on the pass,” said Whitling.
Tyrone wasn’t able to shoot the ball as well as they wanted throughout the game, leaving them short on offense.
Sophomore Alayna Woomer led the Lady Eagles with 13 points. Senior Bree Paul was close behind with six and sophomore Rylan Crowell had four on the night.
Senior Bree Paul blamed the loss on a slow start.
“I thought we played a tough fourth quarter, but our shots had a hard time failing. I think we needed to come out stronger from the start, and we need to clean some things up,” said Paul.
The Lady Eagles dropped to 0-3 on the season. They are back in action tonight as they play the Bellefonte Red Raiders at home. Start times are JV at 6:00 PM and varsity at 7:00 PM.
