Getz to play at Washington and Jefferson College

One of Tyrone’s many three sport stars, Getz will focus on football next fall at W & J

Senior do-it-all athlete Nick Getz will join eight other Tyrone grads who will be playing college football next year.

Getz has been something of a jack-of-all-trades for the Golden Eagles. He was a three year starter on the football team, commanding a no-fly zone on the defensive side of the ball as free safety. He is also third in career receiving yards in Tyrone history.

On the track, Getz competed at states for the 100m dash and 4x100m relay in his first year of running for the varsity track squad. Getz holds the school record in the 100m dash record. Getz also had a pretty successful wrestling season as well.

But football Getz’s first love and the sport he will be playing next fall  at Washington and Jefferson College, a privately owned liberal-arts institution just 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh.

“W&J started showing interest in me after the season, and when I decided to check the college out, I realized how much I actually liked it,” Nick said.

The Washington and Jefferson Presidents are a very competitive Division III football team. They regularly make the NCAA Division III playoffs, and are well-respected for their consistently talented teams.

“What I am really excited about is their business administration program. I’m also considering minoring in finance. I believe that their renowned business reputation will be able to take me where I want to go in life,” Getz said.

Good luck to Getz as he continues his scholastic and athletic careers. Make Tyrone proud!
