Getting Defensive: Tyrone Holds PO to 23 Yards in Shutout Win
Tyrone’s defense put on another show Friday night against Philipsburg-Osceola, posting back-to-back shutouts, and beating the Mounties 49-0.
The first quarter started out slow for the Golden Eagles were no points scored by either team, despite the Golden Eagles twice driving inside the Philipsburg 10-yard line.
The Mounties defense stopped Tyrone on a fourth and goal inside the two, and it looked like the Mounties were going to put up a tough fight.
But after the first quarter ended in a scoreless tie, it was all Tyrone. The Golden Eagles scored five touchdowns in the second quarter with special teams being a focal point of their scoring attack.
Dravyn Crowell’s 61-yard punt return touchdown, and Lukas Walk’s two touchdown performance in under 30 seconds to end the first half gave the Eagle’s a 35-0 lead going into halftime.
But the Tyrone defense once again was the show’s star, holding the Mounties to only one first down in the game and only 23 yards of total offense.
Tyrone also got a running back over the 100-yard rushing mark with Kolten Miller rushing for 107 yards on 14 carries.
Along with the attack on the ground, Ashton Walk threw for 145 yards, leading the Eagle’s offense to a combined 392 yards, converting on 21 first downs as well.
Walk was also able to make magic happen on the ground, converting multiple first downs off of seemingly dead plays.
He also used his arm to get two touchdowns through the air. One on a 2-yard completion to Joshua Patterson, and another to Lukas Walk for a three-yard touchdown pass.
The Golden Eagles look to take on another conference game against the Red Raiders of Bellefonte, at Grays Memorial Field 7 pm on Friday, September 16.
