The senior high wrestlers traveled to Johnstown on Saturday, December 6 for the annual Conemaugh Township Holiday Tournament.  The team placed fifth and four Tyrone wrestlers won individual awards.

The top finishers for Tyrone were heavyweight sophomore Stevie “Smack-down” Colyer and 195 pounder junior John Chronister, who both took 2nd place in their weight classes.

“I thought I did alright,” said Colyer,  “it showed me what I needed to improve on for districts.”

“I just went in and did what I had to do,” added Chronister, “I found some mistakes I had to fix and I’m gonna work on them.”

The other top three place winners for the Golden Eagles were junior Aaron Lewis, who took third at 132 pounds and sophomore Sage Dixon, who also took 3rd at 138 pounds.

“The match I lost I really should have won, but I got three wins this weekend so I’m happy,” said sophomore Sage Dixon, “My goal is to get 30 wins this season.”

North Star High School edged Westmont 106-104 for the tournament team title.  The Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament went to 170 pound Anthony Walters of  Westmont Hilltop.

Bellwood-Antis  also participated and finished in a tie with Johnstown for seventh place.
