The Tyrone Lady Golden Eagles took on and beat the Clearfield Lady Bison on Thursday October 9th on the Bison’s home court in four sets.
After the Eagles four set win against Penns Valley on Tuesday of this week they had a lot of momentum and confidence coming into the match. This match was also a deciding factor on their seed for the district playoffs, and having lost to Clearfield in the beginning of the season, Tyrone was determined to win.
The first set started off strong with the Lady Eagles continuing to beat through the Bison’s defense. They had a lot of success on the right side and broke through Clearfield’s block which helped senior right side hitter, Sarila Hensley, rally 15 kills. They won the set 25-22.
“I think we played really well as a team, with strong communication and everyone fully stepping up,” said senior right side hitter Sarila Hensley, “if we keep playing this well I’m confident we have a solid chance of making it into the playoffs.”
With a lot of confidence the Eagles entered the second set and senior setter Bailey Woomer helped the morale by going on a service run that put the Eagles in the lead.
They continued to keep service pressure on the Bison so Clearfield struggled to return the ball, but anything they did put back over was picked up by senior libero Abby Anthony. She ended the night with 21 digs and the Eagles closed out the set winning 25-18.
The Eagles fell apart in the third set. They got stuck in a service rut early in the set and struggled to dig themselves out. The Bison had gained confidence throughout the set and the Eagles started to get in their own heads. The deficit was too much for the Eagles to work out of and they dropped the set 25-12.
Frustrated, the Eagles went into the fourth set determined not to make it to a fifth. They continued to serve and pass very well, picking up all of the shots that Clearfield was putting over the net.
Their side out percentage improved and senior setter Sidney Goodwin finished the night off with 17 assists. It was a close battle but the Eagles came out victorious winning the set and the match 27-25.
This win improved the Eagles record to 8-7, and next they will face the Philipsburg Lady Mounties at home on Tuesday October 13th.
This will be the last game of the Eagle’s regular season and it happens to land on their Pink Out night for breast cancer awareness. Please come show support for this great cause and these wonderful women.
