Adam Zook Memorial 5k Run/Walk Saturday in Tyrone

A community 5k run/2k walk and pancake breakfast in honor of the late 2016 Tyrone graduate Adam Zook will be held at Reservoir Park in Tyrone on Saturday, September 26.
The run was originally scheduled for May 16, 2020, but was rescheduled due to COVID-19.
Adam Zook was a well-respected student and member of the Tyrone High School Class of 2016, where he excelled academically, athletically, and socially. He was very involved with the student body as a member of the cross country and track team, he was Editor-in-Chief of the Eagle Eye, a member of the mock trial team, drama club, and numerous other clubs and organizations at Tyrone High School.
After graduation, Zook enrolled in Slippery Rock University to pursue his passion for journalism. Just like in high school, he was chosen to be editor in chief of the Slippery Rock student newspaper for his senior year. However, in July 2019, the summer before his senior year, Adam tragically took his own life.
The Tyrone school and community were in shock and mourning after his passing. Although not everyone knew him personally, most knew of him as a kind, outgoing, genuine person. He was known for was standing in the high school hallways, greeting and complimenting any students and teachers who passed by.
Proceeds from the race will fund scholarships and support local suicide prevention initiatives within the Tyrone Area High School and surrounding community.
Adam will always be remembered for his vibrant spirit and compassionate nature. He lived by his personal motto, “Be kind to others, you never know when they may need that hello.”
In his memory, proceeds from the race will be used toward a scholarship fund invested with the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation. Race organizers plan to establish several scholarships will be awarded each year to outstanding student leaders and athletes in the Tyrone Area School District.
Race details are as follows:
REGISTRATION: Cost is $25 per participant. Online registration will close on Wednesday, 9/23/2020. Those who registered before September 6 will receive a race t-shirt. A limited number of t-shirts will be available for purchase at the race for those who registered later.
DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION: Day of race registration will be $30. Same day race registration will be available from 7 am to 8 am at the start area in Reservoir Park.
PACKET PACK UP: Packets will be available at 7 am the day of the race.
AWARDS CEREMONY: Awards will immediately follow the race. Awards to top overall male and female and top three in all age groups.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST: There will be a pancake breakfast following the race and rewards. Please plan to stay and remember Adam. Breakfast is free for all paid participants, spectators are welcome to attend for a donation.
