Four students from the Tyrone Area FFA proudly represented their chapter at The Big E, the largest agricultural fair in the Northeast, on September 13, 2025.
This prestigious event brought together competitors from all six New England states and nine additional states from the National FFA Eastern Region, showcasing their skills in Floriculture, Ag Mechanics, Livestock Judging, Public Speaking Events, and more.
Seniors Paige Hoy, Gracie Graham, Madisen Jones, and Carlie Nowlin dedicated their efforts to excel in the Floriculture competition held at the Farm-A-Rama building. Participants were challenged to create a floral arrangement, craft a corsage, complete a general knowledge exam, engage in a plant identification practicum, and demonstrate their problem-solving abilities. The team ultimately achieved an impressive 4th place overall.
“I was surprised that we placed fourth because there were a lot of teams. It was a great event, and I am proud to have represented Pennsylvania,” team member Paige Hoy said.
In addition to their individual challenges, the team collaborated on a project aimed at enhancing their horticulture program at Tyrone Area High School. They developed an organized plan that utilized resources like social media and a budget to present to the judges.
“My favorite part about the floriculture competition is the team event as it offered the opportunity to work together with my teammates on further expanding our school’s horticulture program through classes and events,” senior Gracie Graham said.
The students’ success reflects months of hard work, dedication, and countless hours spent honing their skills, underscoring the commitment of the Tyrone Area FFA to excellence in agricultural education.
