Ferguson Drives Into the State Championship
Senior Andrew Ferguson placed second at the 2018 PIAA AA Boys’ West Region Golf Championship on Monday, October 15. Ferguson will move on to the PIAA State Championship next week.
“I knew that over the past couple of weeks Andrew had started to play well. We worked hard on a couple of his weak areas. Although there is still room for improvement, I fully expected him to move on to states,” said coach Greg Ferguson.
Ferguson prevailed through windy, wet, and rainy conditions to shoot a 74. His round consisted of four bogies, 12 pars, and two birdies. Fergusson finished just one stroke behind the number one spot.
“Overall the golf course played hard. He had one errant tee shot, chunked one chip, and one three-putt that all led to bogies. Those were the things that stuck out most but that’s golf. Overall it was a pretty flawless round of golf,” said coach Ferguson.
Last year, Ferguson tied for third with a 77 at the Regional Championship. Last years conditions were pretty fair. It was sunny and a little chilly.
With three years of experience, Ferguson is confident that this is his year.
“I feel that my scores may not reflect me being better, but mentally I am far more superior than last year,” said Andrew Ferguson.
The PIAA State Championship will take place on Monday, October 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd at Heritage Hills in York Pa.
“This year with all of the work me and my dad have put in in the past few weeks, I feel much more prepared than last year. I believe that if I play smart and remain patient, I will have a chance to win,” said Andrew Ferguson.
