Erika Voyzey Places 3rd at New Balance Indoor Nationals

Erika Voyzey takes her high jump resume to heights

Last Friday Senior Erika Voyzey took third in the high jump at the New Balance Indoor National Meet in New York City, New York. She achieved a new personal best, breaking her own school record with a jump of 5’9 1/4″.

The event featured jumpers from across not only the nation but across North America. The top six jumpers alone hailed from Canada, Kentucky, Washington, New York, Virginia, and Missouri. But at number three the small town of Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania stood proud with it’s prized jumping Champion.

“It was all such an amazing experience,” said Voyzey, “I had jumped before at Indoor Nationals the year prior so I was comfortable with the environment.”

Voyzey is a two time State Champion in high jump and hopes to continue her success into her final year as an athlete here at TAHS.

Her current personal best is now just 3/4 of an inch off the PIAA AA state record set back in 1979.  Voyzey hopes to surpass that height by the end of her high school career.

“I hope to be able to hit the six foot mark by the end of the outdoor season. That would really put me in some elite company,” said Voyzey.

Voyzey has yet to commit officially to any university but does plan to jump in college.
