Scholar-to-Ship: Tyrone’s Engle Accepts Basketball Scholarship to Shippensburg University
Tyrone senior standout basketball player Kasey Engle will continue her academic and basketball career at Shippensburg University, where she will play for Shippensburg Head Coach Kristi Trn.
“I am very proud and excited for Kasey. She works so hard on her game and has put in a tremendous amount of time,” said Tyrone Head Coach Luke Rhoades.
Engle has been a standout in the Tyrone basketball community since she become a starter her freshman year.
She has contributed to three Mountain League titles, along with many personal accolades, including back-to-back Mountain League MVP awards. She has already surpassed the 1,000 point mark and with a solid senior season has a good chance to become Tyrone’s all time leading scorer.
Along with all of the skills she brings to the team, Engle is also a great teammate.
“Aside from being my best friend, she is a great leader, teammate, and role model for everyone on the team. Oh, and she good,” said fellow Tyrone senior Alexis Cannistraci.
In choosing a college, academics was just as important as basketball for Engle, who is also a high achieving student that to plans to major in pre-med.
“I wanted to choose a school that had a solid biology and pre-med major,” said Engle. “I was considering Bloomsburg, Seton Hill, and Saint Vincent as well.”
According to Engle she loved the campus, team and coaching staff at Shippensburg.
“It all felt like home for me,” said Engle. “I really liked the coach and her style of play. I feel like I will fit in well with the program.”
Engle is likely to begin her playing career at Shippensburg as the “two” guard and hopes to get some time at point guard as well.
But before she can even think of her college career, Engle is looking forward to her senior season, hoping for nothing short of a district championship.
