Eli Sleeth still determined to play football on Saturdays

Sleeth plans to enroll at Shippensburg University in the fall but has yet to secure a roster spot on the football team

Senior Elijah Sleeth needs no introduction to Tyrone football fans.

Sleeth was a bright light on the Golden Eagles football squad as linebacker and fullback throughout his high school career. Sleeth made some key memorable plays that many won’t forget.

His fourth and inches stop against Cambria Heights in the first round of playoffs, his interception that went for six in the second round against Bald Eagle, his game clinching sack against Chestnut Ridge are just a few. There’s many more stories that will be made of our former star while he’s chases his dream.

Sleeth would like to take football to the next level and play in college but he’ll still need to overcome some uncertainties to make the roster at Shippensburg University next season.

He applied late to Shippensburg University and as a result has not yet secured a spot on the Red Raiders roster for the 2015 season.

“Next season may not be a possibility because when I made my decision to start out at Ship they were still debating if I had a spot on the roster yet,” said Sleeth, “They never told me I was on the team or I wasn’t on the team. The coach told me that by June or July they would have an answer.”

“All I want is an opportunity,” said Sleeth.

If given a roster spot, Sleeth plans to play linebacker for the Red Raiders. Sleeth plans to major in Criminal Justice.

“My life is not full of opportunities,” said Sleeth, but he’s not planning to give up on football. His dream was, and still is, to play at Penn State under James Franklin.

Sleeth is one of Tyrone’s most dedicated players in the weight room, and has become one of the strongest players on the field.  If given an opportunity to play, Sleeth knows that he can and will be successful.

He just hopes he can get that opportunity.
