In a match that swung back and forth until the final whistle, the Eagles fell 3-2 in a heartbreaking defeat against Hollidaysburg’s Tigers, for their first loss of the season. The Eagles’ record now stands at 4-1.
Despite the loss, the team played well and proved that they can compete for a district championship this season.
“I’m proud of how much our team’s grown. Going into a game like this at Hollidaysburg, we knew we could put up a fight. Even though we didn’t get the win, we still showed a lot of improvement and toughness,” junior Cameron Nelson said. “Our defense kept them at 0 in the first half, and even when they scored a couple in the second, we kept playing hard. Shoutout to our offense too for putting up 2 goals against a tough team. Overall, that game showed how far we’ve come and how solid we’ve been this season.”
The Eagles brought energy and a strong defense to stop Hollidaysburg’s quick offense.
Throughout the first half, both teams were even and went into halftime without a goal.
The Eagles knew heading into the second half, they would need to keep up the energy and stay focused.
However, 10 minutes into the second half, the Tigers scored from a long shot that found the bottom left corner.
This did not stop the Eagles, as they scored five minutes later with a Grant Miller penalty kick after Gavin Tuskovich was fouled in the penalty area.
It took the Tigers less than five minutes to score again, giving them a one-goal lead yet again.
After Hollidaysburg’s goal, the Tigers kept the pressure up, controlling the ball through the midfield and with 20 minutes left in the second half, the Tigers found their third and final goal.
Tyrone scored again with one minute left in the game on a powerful Gavin Tuskovich shot into the top right corner, setting the final score at 3-2.
“Even though we may have lost, I feel that we all gave our best effort and gave a really good team a run for their money,” freshman Miles Smearman said.
