Eagles Finally Fall in OT at Johnstown
The high school basketball schedule is grueling. Teams compete in nearly 30 regular-season games before even getting to the post-season. Going undefeated is a monumental task but one that was still a possibility for the Golden Eagles after one-third of the season. However, after ten straight victorious games, Tyrone finally lost in an extremely close contest to Johnstown in overtime 73-82.
The first half the Eagles started off slow, behind by 11 points. After the half the Eagles came out fighting with a 14-2 run grabbing the lead. After the 14-2 both teams went back and forth scoring leading into overtime. In overtime Johnstown was able to come out on top scoring 14 to Tyrone’s 5 points.
Late in the game, both Gripp and Lucas fouled out. Without two of their biggest weapons put them at a real disadvantage against the Trojans late in the game and in overtime.
Johnstown outscored the Golden Eagles 14-5 in the extra frame to take home the win. Both teams now have one loss on the season.
Leading scorers for the Eagles were Taylor with 19, Gripp with 16, and Rhoads adding on another 14 points.
