Eagles Fall to Undefeated Trojans

Chris Escala

Ross Gampe

The Johnstown Trojans are one of the area’s top boys’ basketball teams, so the Golden Eagles knew they were going to have their hands full on Saturday afternoon in Johnstown.

Going into the game, the Men of Troy were 10-0, averaging over 75 points per game, and their closest win was a 23-point romp over Westmont.

But Tyrone was determined to give Johnstown a run and started the game strong. Shots were falling for the Eagles in the first half and the Trojans were missing shots and picking up fouls. The Eagles went into halftime down only 4 points, 35-31.

But after the break, the Trojans went on a roll, scoring 25 points in the third quarter while holding the Eagles to just 11.

Johnstown was deadly from long range, dropping 11 three-pointers. The Trojans 5’10” senior guard Nyeere Collins had a stellar game, leading all scorers with 30 points, including six from beyond the three-point arc.

Senior Ross Gampe led Tyrone with 19 points, and senior Zac LeGars added 11.

With the loss, Tyrone dropped to 5-4 while Johnstown improved to 11-0.
