Eagles Fall in Regular Season Finale
The Tyrone Golden Eagles fell in their season finale Friday night losing to Mount Union by a score of 13-4 Tyrone scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning but were unable to get much after that.
After a shaky start for the Golden Eagle pitching junior Nic Light came into the game and shut down the Mount Union hitters over the final 4.1 innings of the game. Light did not allow a run while only giving up 4 hits.
Tyrone’s offense had a slow game as they only gathered 6 hits on the night. Andrew Pearson led the Golden Eagles with 2 hits. Cory Lehman and Aiden Coleman drove in runs for Tyrone,
After Tyrone’s early success in the first inning Mount Union followed it up by scoring 5 runs quickly. Soon after Mount Union scored their 5 runs the skies opened up delaying the game. When the game resumed Mount Union continued right where they left off. They scored 4 more runs before Tyrone could get out of the inning.
Tyrone was unable to close the gap in the top of the second inning but Mount Union was able to widen it in the bottom of that inning. They scored another 4 runs increasing their lead to 13-3.
The rest of the game went by smoothly for Tyrone as Light shutdown the Trojan hitters. Tyrone scored another run in the top of the fourth but that was all they could get for the rest of the game.
With the loss the Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a 17-3 record. They will begin their playoff run Monday May 20th at home against a yet to be determined opponent.
