The Tyrone Golden Eagles won their last regular-season game of the season 4-1 over Bald Eagle Area.
With the victory, the Golden Eagles secured the three or four seed for the district playoffs and will get a home playoff game next week against either Philipsburg or Central Cambria, depending on how the seedings shake out.
Eli Woomer started on the hill for the Eagles and pitched 6 complete innings, shutting down the Bald Eagle offense and holding them to just one run.
The Golden Eagles started the game with a lead-off triple from senior Landon Hamer, followed by an 8-pitch walk that put Brandon McClure on base. Ashton Walk then hit a sacrifice fly, bringing in Hamer.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the bottom of the first with an RBI infield single from senior Brienn Jones.
The Eagles allowed multiple hits and walks, but Bald Eagle wasn’t able to string any together and generated just one run through 7 innings.
The Golden Eagle offense was struggling to generate runs until the bottom of the sixth inning, when they tagged two insurance runs from an RBI double from Owen Oakes and an RBI single from Gayge Miller, scoring Oakes.
Oakes had the lone multi-hit performance for the Golden Eagles.
“We added runs on the board when we needed them most and came out with the victory,” said Oakes, “but we need to be hitting the ball better in the upcoming weeks in the playoffs against better competition.”
Brandon McClure closed the game out in the 7th inning, allowing no runners and securing the 4-1 victory.
