In the 2023-2024 school year, the Tyrone Eagle Eye sponsored a food drive to help the Tyrone Area Food Bank. They were seeing a spike in households visiting the food bank during the holiday season. Because the food drive was a huge success last year, the Eagle Eye has decided to do it again.
The food drive will begin October 28 and end November 8 in the Tyrone Middle and High School. Donations will be collected in homeroom classrooms.
This year the food bank has asked specifically for donations of breakfast cereal and canned soup. We ask that students prioritize those items if possible, though the food drive will also accept the other teams listed below for donation to either the Tyrone Food Bank or another local food bank if they do not have the space for the items.
The homeroom in the Middle and High School with the most donations will get donuts courtesy of the Eagle Eye.
Cash donations are also needed and can be made in the Middle or High School Main Office.
This year, the food drive is being run and organized by the following juniors in the fifth-period Eagle Eye class: Nicole Ramsey, Sidney Goodwin, Alyssa Houck, and Claire Lehman.
“We decided to do the food drive again because it was such a big success and it really helped out the community during the holiday season. We are hoping to have an even better donation amount this year and it’s a really good cause to give back to the community,” Houck said.
The food bank is in the most need of cereal and canned soup, but the Eagle Eye will also accept the non-perishable items listed below :
