Senior Rosie McKernan has been involved in drama and musicals throughout high school. According to McKernan, joining the Drama Club was one of the best decisions of her high school career.
“My first musical was scary. I didn’t know anyone that well. However, it became a family real quick. I have never felt more at home than with drama club,” McKernan said.
New drama club adviser Jonathan Holmes wants more students to get involved and have the kind of experience with drama that McKernan has had.
“First of all, Drama Club is an awesome time,” Drama Club Adviser and English teacher Jonathan Holmes, “We seriously have a ton of fun. If someone is thinking about it or even curious, come to a Drama Club meeting and see what we’re all about.”
The biggest event of the Drama Club year is the spring musical. This year the club will be performing The Addams Family.
The Addams Family is frightfully funny and a new musical first performed on Broadway in 2010. The musical follows Wednesday Addams, the eldest daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams, and her kooky family in her big adventure in love. After falling in love with Lucas Beineke, a “normal” kid from Ohio, Wednesday’s world gets flipped upside down while bringing her family along for the ride.
Holmes and McKernan encourage any student who is interested to get involved.
“If you’re curious, talk to a member or come and see me. I love to talk about Drama Club,” Holmes said.
He also stressed that the Drama Club is not just for actors and singers. There are lots of people needed behind the scenes to make the productions go smoothly.
“We have many, many areas a student can help and be involved. We need stagehands, costume crew members, and artists, too,” Holmes said.
Holmes is bringing back the stage crew for the 2025 production and is eager for kids to get involved in drama club and theatre.
The drama club will have multiple meetings in the fall. Any student interested should contact Mr. Holmes or any current drama club member. Holmes said he would be very happy to answer any questions students might have.
