Senior libero Abby Anthony reached a major milestone in her volleyball career by earning her 500th dig against Central last Thursday, September 25.
Anthony is only the third player in Tyrone history to reach this impressive feat. She joins former Lady Eagles Kylee Nelson and Ebonee Rice as 500 dig holders.
This is an incredible accomplishment that few volleyball players get the chance to experience. Her hard work and determination over her career has gotten her to where she is today.
“I was so excited to be able to hit this milestone before I graduated. This was very bittersweet for me, especially because I have been wanting to accomplish this since I was in middle school,” said Anthony, “I was also so thankful for all of my teammates that made my signs and made my night feel so incredibly special.”
Anthony started playing volleyball nine years ago after attending a clinic run by former Tyrone head coach Mike Kraft. She fell in love with the energy and competitiveness of the sport, and the pace of the game.
Anthony has always been an outgoing and determined player who has always pushed herself and her teammates to be the best they can be.
While Anthony has played many different positions, like hitting front row, both outside and right side, passing was always her favorite.
She has played for nine years and been on many courts, including many tournaments during club season.
Anthony’s teammates could not be more proud of her and how far she has come over the years.
“Abby has worked so hard to achieve this. She deserves it more than anyone,” said sophomore teammate Amaya Martin, “The team and I are so proud of her.”
Anthony plans to attend college next fall and explore her options as she learns new things and gains new experiences.
