Deadline for TAHS Cheerleading Signups Is May 1

Tryouts will be done via video this season.

Tryouts for the Tyrone Golden Eagles Cheerleading Squad will be held virtually this year due to the coronavirus outbreak. Any TAHS student entering grades 9-12 is invited to try out for varsity.

Interested students can sign up now by clicking THIS LINK. The deadline for signups is this Friday, May 1.

On Monday, May 4th there will be a zoom meeting for all interested students to obtain information and directions for the tryout procedures.

All tryout videos will be due by May 10th, 2020 and the results will be communicated on May 15th, 2020.

Please contact coaches Amy Fleck at [email protected] or Jess Anderson at [email protected] with any questions and concerns.

One of the benefits of the video tryouts is that students can submit their best performances.

“Cheerleaders can review the material at their own pace and as many times as they need to learn the material. They can record themselves as many times as they want until they get the perfect take,” said Fleck.

With the season off to an unusual start, Coaches Fleck and Anderson want to emphasize that all the cheerleaders need to be committed and focused on bettering the team even while social distancing is required.

“As of right now, we will not be able to begin clinics until July 1. This will impact the overall knowledge of the material and the stunting experience of new participants.” said Anderson, “However, we will just need to come up with different ways to share material and be committed to working hard in July and August to prepare for the season.”

Members of the team will be expected to work on their own outside of group practices.

“I am hopeful when we communicate our expectations, that everyone will be focused on meeting the team goals to maximize the time we will have to prepare for our season,” says Anderson.

Coach Fleck and Anderson understand the anxiety that trying out can bring and are available to the cheerleaders through these bewildering events.

“We just want to stress that this is a new process for all of us and we do not want anyone to feel intimidated by the process. We are all learning this new technology. We hope that if anyone is on the fence about trying out they reach out to one of us,” said Fleck.
