Cross Country Kicks Off 2019 Season
The 2019 Golden Eagle Cross Country Team is two meets into their season, and while the team is still searching for a win, several individuals are improving and the team is looking forward to a successful season.
The Eagles began their season at the Big Valley Invitational with junior Garin Hoy was the Eagle’s top finisher.
“Overall, the meet was fun and exciting with great running conditions. I just ran with all my heart and had fun,” said Hoy.
At the Penns Valley, Hoy also finished first for Tyrone boys with a new personal record. Senior Matthew Savino and Sophomore Adam Detwiler also improved on their times, finishing close behind Hoy.
“It was very exciting and it’s good for the team to see what we need to improve on for the season,” said Light.
The girls team has grown this year, and seen steady improvement so far.
Sophomore Marissa Lewis has consistently been the Lady Eagle’s top finisher, followed by junior Ella Pearson and freshman Beth Pearson.
According to Coach Tammi Wills, Kohler is has been showing tremendous improvement already this season, besting her personal record by almost 2 minutes.
The solid boys and girls team are ready for the meets to come with a lot of returning runners, and some new ones as well. The 2019 squad is the largest team in recent years.
The boys team consists of seniors Matt Savino and Nic Light. Juniors Garin Hoy, Ian Imler, Blaine Hoover, and Andrew Savino. Sophomores Adam Detwiler, Rory Quigley, and Iziah Christy. Freshmen Caleb McKinney and Ian Dicken.
The girls squad consists of juniors Laura Kohler, Ella Pearson, and Paige Webster. Sophomores Marissa Lewis and Stephanie Ramsey as well as freshmen Beth Pearson.
I'm a sophomore and this is my first year and Eagle Eye. I joined because it seemed fun and telling stories is fun to me. My writing also needs improvement....

This article was posted on Thursday but failed to update that Tuesdays meet against Central and Clearfield was a win for both boys and girls teams….and Jr. High!
A couple of other things: the list of team members is not complete and misspelled players names. example: Caleb McKinney (sp)
Also other Freshman boy not included: Ian Dicken

Thank you for the corrections. The names have been updated. The Central and Clearfield meet occurred after our reporters deadline so it will be covered in our next cross country story in a week or two.
