Cross Country Kicks Off 2019 Season

The 2019 Golden Eagle Cross Country Team is two meets into their season, and while the team is still searching for a win, several individuals are improving and the team is looking forward to a successful season.  

The Eagles began their season at the Big Valley Invitational with junior Garin Hoy was the Eagle’s top finisher.

“Overall, the meet was fun and exciting with great running conditions. I just ran with all my heart and had fun,” said Hoy.

At the Penns Valley, Hoy also finished first for Tyrone boys with a new personal record. Senior Matthew Savino and Sophomore Adam Detwiler also improved on their times, finishing close behind Hoy.

“It was very exciting and it’s good for the team to see what we need to improve on for the season,” said Light.

The girls team has grown this year, and seen steady improvement so far.

Sophomore Marissa Lewis has consistently been the Lady Eagle’s top finisher, followed by junior Ella Pearson and freshman Beth Pearson.

According to Coach Tammi Wills, Kohler is has been showing tremendous improvement already this season, besting her personal record by almost 2 minutes.

Laura Kohler has been a top performer for the Lady Eagles so far this season.

The solid boys and girls team are ready for the meets to come with a lot of returning runners, and some new ones as well.  The 2019 squad is the largest team in recent years.

The boys team consists of seniors Matt Savino and Nic Light. Juniors Garin Hoy, Ian Imler, Blaine Hoover, and Andrew Savino. Sophomores Adam Detwiler, Rory Quigley, and Iziah Christy. Freshmen Caleb McKinney and Ian Dicken.

The girls squad consists of juniors Laura Kohler, Ella Pearson, and Paige Webster. Sophomores Marissa Lewis and Stephanie Ramsey as well as freshmen Beth Pearson.
