The Tyrone boys swim team soared over the Penns Valley with a dominant 118-30 win, improving their season record to 8-1. The girls lost to Richland 96-44, falling to 0-9 on the season.
It was also Senior Night for the Golden Eagles. Two seniors, Sophia Cowher from Tyrone and Isaac Yesky from Bishop Guilfoyle, swam their last home meet at the Tyrone Natatorium.
“Both Sophia and Isaac have been great leaders and teammates during their swimming careers,” Tyrone Head Coach Tom Getz said, “Seeing them grow as swimmers and young adults over the past four years has been a blessing.”
Senior Sophia Cowher is a four-year swimmer for the Golden Eagles.
“I feel good about my swimming career,” Cowher said. “I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished over the years of my swim career. I’m sad that it’s over but excited to start the next chapter.”
Getz also had a few words to say about Cowher and Yeskey’s improvement since they began on the team as freshman.
“They were both very competitive from ninth grade on,” Getz said, “Each season, you could see them getting stronger and more comfortable in competing at a high level.”
Cowher and Yeskey have also contributed greatly to the team during their time at Tyrone.
“Sophia contributed both in and out of the pool,” Getz said, “During the last few years our numbers have been down on the girls’ side. She was able to stay positive and keep the other girls positive as well.”
“Isaac came to us in 9th grade and fit in immediately,” Getz added, “He was an integral part of the boys team the last few years and helped lead our district championship relay team.”
For the meet results, starting on the Boys’ side, Patrick Van Kluenen (200 freestyle and 100 backstroke) was the lone double winner for the Golden Eagles.
