Tyrone Music Department Sends 13 to County Chorus Competition

On the Monday and Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving vacation, thirteen students from Tyrone High School traveled to Tussey Mountain High School for County Chorus.

Each year schools from our district come together to perform a concert for friends and family directed by a guest conductor.

This year, the group of 150 students was conducted by Dr. Christopher Kiver, who is the director of Penn State University’s Glee Club and the Chamber Singers. Kiver was born and raised in the United Kingdom and in 2006, received two Grammy Awards for “Best Choral Performance” and “Best Classical Album”. He has appeared as a guest conductor has appeared as guest conductor in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

The students worked hard for two full days to prepare for the concert on the second evening. After a spaghetti dinner and photos, the group took the stage and put on a very memorable performance. Students sang songs ranging from classical music by Handel to upbeat country music written by John Leavitt.

“I think that the festival was wonderful learning experience for all of the students that participated in it, and I was very impressed with the concert,” said Tyrone choral director Laura Harris.
