On Sunday, May 12, at 2:00 pm, Concert Choir and POPS Extension will collaborate for this year’s free spring concert.
This season’s theme is music from plays, featuring songs from Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.
From Les Miserables, POPS and Concert Choir will perform “Do You Hear the People Sing?” which is the rallying song from the popular musical and movie. With powerful lyrics and a call to arms, this song is sure to have you screaming for revolution.
Another song from Les Miserables being performed is “One Day More.” It also features a call to arms, but its message is more amorous – a woman bemoaning her unrequited love, and a man pondering whether he should go after his love or not. A popular character in the play, Javert, sings the line the men will be singing, “One more day to revolution / we will nip it in the bud.” Javert was against the revolution, and, more specifically, Jean Valjean, another major character.
Several songs from Phantom of the Opera will also be sung. These songs feature “Think of Me,” “All I Ask Of You,” and “Phantom of the Opera,” along with many more.
There will also be several feature solos. These feature solos will include: Sarah Parker, performing I Dreamed a Dream, Emily Jamison and Alexis McKenna performing For Good, and Alison McGovern performing Astonishing.
Decorating the stage will be flowers in the theme of spring, just as there were poinsettias for the Christmas concert.
Mrs. Harris, chorus director, said she is “extremely [excited, and] I guess you’re always worried – but overall I’m not too worried.”
You can expect an hour of fantastic music at this performance. Bring your family and friends to enjoy well known music, and support the members of Concert Choir and POPS.
