Color-A-Thon 5K Fun Run/Walk is Saturday, April 30
It’s not too late to join! Participants can register the day of the event!
Tyrone Elementary and Middle School will hold their first ever Color-A-Thon Fun Run on Saturday, April 30 at the Tyrone Area School District campus. Registration begins at 10 am and the race kicks off at 11 am.
The Color-A-Thon is an untimed 5K walk/run with a fun twist. Along the route runners will be doused in colorful powder that that will leave them coated in a rainbow of non-toxic neon corn-starch based dye.
Participants cross the finish line and are hit with a final color blast as they jam out to music. Participants are also given their own color packets to cover themselves and their friends. The result is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that many say is the most fun they’ve ever had exercising.
“Walkers, runners, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and people of all fitness and ability levels are encouraged to participate,” said event organizer Jessica Hetrick.

The race benefits the Tyrone Elementary and Middle School Positive Behavior Support Program. The Positive Behavior Support Program provides assemblies, reward days, and fun activities for students who excel academically and/or makes positive decisions.
There will be several heats so the serious runners can go first, followed by the recreational runners, and the last heat will be for walkers, dancers and children under 10. Since it is a fun run there will be no running clock, no places and no awards for top finishers.
Race organizers Jessica Hetrick and Kourtney Klock suggest that participants add their own color to the race by dressing for the occasion.
“Sunglasses are a definite must just to keep the powder out of your eyes. Everyone is welcome to wear tutus and crazy outfits to add to the fun, too,” said Hetrick.
After the run there will be a huge party with music, entertainment, raffles, food and beverages.
The cost of the run is $30.00. Participants can still register the day of the event but to be guaranteed a prize pack, you must have already registered by March 21st.
Individuals or community groups that wish to participate by volunteering or becoming an official run sponsor should contact Jessica Hetrick at [email protected]. Sponsors will be recognized with a sign along the course.
We hope to see you there!
